Get hooked: The best hooks to make your walls work for you

With their simple purpose: to store our clutter, getting it off the floor (heaven!) yet keep it easy to find, I find hooks very appealing. Most interiors stores offer a selection; here are my current favourites:

These circular wooden hooks, collectively called The Dots, below, are versatile and contemporary; the design has a welcome sense of fun. Sold as a set of 5 (although there’s no reason why you couldn’t hang more together) they almost look better with nothing hanging from them, which possibly defeats their purpose; I love how they turn this empty stairwell wall into useful storage:

… although I’m less sure about the slightly unrealistic styling (beads on turn of stairs in my house = slip; knock over, probably breaking glass lamp; then tread on, so smashing digital camera positioned on step below…)

Here are The Dots again in natural oak finish, and yellow stained oak, below:

House Doctor‘s current collection includes designs with a nod to 1950s and 1960s style; the Liva coat rack, below, with its spherical, coloured hooks, references Charles & Ray Eames iconic Hang it All:

House Doctor is the go-to company for that key vintage/industrial look we can get enough of right how; with a great choice of hooks and coat racks, two more House Doctor favourites include this wire/wooden rack below, and the numbers (sold as a set of 5) beneath:

For children’s rooms, there are so many clever and cute designs; if you’re looking for colour, then Danish stylist Rie Elise Larsen includes hooks in rainbow shades as part of her interiors collection; source them through Little Baby Company.

They look wonderful grouped in a line:

Whilst this simple, wooden coat rack by All Lovely Stuff is another winner for children:

Whilst for elegant, grown up hooks, head to Rowen & Wren: their delightful homewares collection includes a great choice of covetable products, including both these French-style metal/ceramic hooks, below, and in the second image, the Hector plated coat hooks, which come as a set of five as shown, or as a single hook,
