Sneak peak: John Lewis Spring/Summer 2014

Take a break from silver, glitter and sparkles this pre-Christmas week and mellow out with a sneak look at the beautiful press shots from John Lewis’s spring summer collection for 2014. There are two key trends; Expressions, which combines materials (wood, upholstery fabrics, wallpapers) in warm, detailed and textured neutral shades with others (glass, metallics, soft furnishings) chosen in flashes of contrasting brights: orange-hued copper (copper is definitely having its moment), citrus yellow; warm rose; rich purples and blues:

The Brushstrokes wallpaper is a particular favourite; new for this season; shown here in Smoke colourway, the pattern is also available as an upholstery/drape fabric. The painterly Expressions framed prints are part of the new range; styled here alongside Content by Conran side tables (they come as a nest of three for £199), and a Heming sofa in Porto Grey.

Let the sun shine: Spring 2013 trends at Marimekko

Happy post-Easter week to you all, and on this, another, grey grey Friday I’ve decided to go hunting for Spring, as it looks as though it won’t find me this year. For sunny, cheerful fabrics that make you and your rooms smile, Marimekko is hard to beat, and so if you’re as fed up with grey skies as I am then dive into their new Spring 2013 collection.

With a global fanbase that’s been increasing since the 1960s, Finland’s iconic Marimekko has done it again this year; their new fabric and home decor collection zings with colour and bold pattern. I’ve taken a shine to their cheerful fruit-filled Kompotti fabric; you also find elements of this design on a new tableware collection:

And everyone’s favourite floral, Unikko (originally designed in 1964 and still one of their best-selling fabrics for both homewares and accessories), is now available in this welcome mix of blues, soft sage green and white:

Other fabrics in the new collection feature painterly techniques that create vibrant patterns for this summer:

When it comes to clothes, their fashion is not for the colour-shy, but will any sneaker-lover be able to resist Marimekko’s new collection for Converse?

Converse’s classic high top and a new, more feminine platform sneaker get the Marimekko treatment, with designs in several of their classic patterns available through Converse and at some Marimekko stores from this spring,

Shop for Marimekko fabrics and home decor at their standalone shops or concessions: check their website for suppliers close to you (currently there are no online sales through their website).

Let’s hope the sun shines soon, and happy weekends to you all.

Just in: Chic, easy-to-live-with homewares at Loaf

Just in time to catch the first tempting rays of spring sunshine (at least round these parts, the sun is trying to make an appearance after months lost….) is the new collection from Loaf.

From sturdy painted kitchen tables to soft rugs and covetable, squishy cushions, materials are natural (wood, metal, linen) and colours span a gentle palette from subtle neutrals (greys, creams, off-whites) to modern pastels.

Here’s my pick of the best:

Loaf - Bobbin bed is priced from £645 for a double low-res

Loaf - Scrunch cushions £55 low-res

A modern take on a traditional bedframe above; whilst textiles are textured; colours soft: love both the bedroom rug and generously sized feather-filled linen cushions…

Loaf - Dolly storage trolley £295 low-res Loaf - High Wire storage unit £155 and Geronimo chair £145 low-res

Bathroom pieces include metal trolleys and locker-room storage: a gentle interpretation of the currently on-trend industrial, utilitarian look

Loaf - Pantry kitchen table priced from £495 low-res

There are plenty of dining tables, plus mixable dining chairs…

Loaf - Snow Compact kitchen table is priced at £395, Geronimo metal chair is priced at £145, Cafe au Lait chair £115 low-res

Loaf - Splay kitchen table priced from £895 low-res

This delicately decorated bedlinen below is a favourite: slightly folksy, slightly Scandi, but yet (phew!) not twee: the design successfully captures the look of vintage linen:

Loaf - Saint Irene bed linen priced from £15 low-res.2

Predominantly an online business, Loaf started out in 2008 with a capsule collection of well made, well priced, chic beds and have taken it from there. Take some time out to browse their site for the full range and let me know what you think; some pieces are already there whilst others will be in stock shortly.

Patterns spring 2013, OKA china

It seems we are going mad for patterns this spring, and OKA’s folksy, decorative, colourful Florya china range, part of their new Spring 2013 collection, is right on trend.

Say goodbye to boring white, and embrace these vibrant plates, bowls and mugs….

With several patterns and colours to choose from, I love the fact the china is sold individually, rather than as a set: leaving us to buy the pieces we wish for, in the patterns and colours that coordinate with what’s already in our kitchen cupboards.

With snow outside and piles of paper scattered over the floor as I perform a frantic and (let’s be honest) futile search for aged bank statements so I can complete last year’s tax return, my house couldn’t look more different from these cool, calm and collected shots from Danish company House Doctor‘s new Spring 2013 catalogue.

They have a staggering quantity of beautiful, simple, desirable homewares…

Spring 2013 trends at John Lewis

On one of those grey autumn days where the sun never emerges from behind a dull damp sky, John Lewis‘s brand new Spring / Summer 2013 press pack arrived, filled with summery shots that banished thoughts of winter from my head, for now…

Here’s a sneak peak of their new collections for next spring: The two new trends are Pioneer, which has up to-the-minute geometric patterns and earthy tones; and Botanist: it’s fresh and pretty, with natural motifs (think dragonflies and florals) and delicate shades – blues, greys and palest lime green.
